Student Success Statement: Thomas Carlyle

“ A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.”-Thomas Carlyle

The significance of this quote is that you will not achieve anything unless you know what you want to achieve. You can’t advance in life unless you know what you want. It is like you wanting to go somewhere but you don’t know where you want to go. You have to be set to go somewhere in life. You can’t just walk or move, I mean you could but there would be no point. There is no point in life unless you actually know where you want to go. I feel as if you're just waking up in the morning to another day, but there is no point in living. You have to have your headset to go somewhere. That would be the start, then you would actually have to move forward. And when you get there, you would know that you achieved something.

Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day Weekend

For Memorial Day I went shopping with my sister. I also went to the park with my little brother, while he was playing basketball, I read a book. Most of the day on Saturday I was  reading, writing and  watching Netflix. I was reading Pride and Prejudice. I watched various movies with my sister while she was hogging all the popcorn.  I also went to this small ice cream shop after the park, i would like to say that i liked the ice cream but i didn’t eat. I went to the mall with my sister because she was looking for a dress. She’s graduating pretty soon and she needed my advice.  On Sunday I went to church and then went back home. On Monday i spent my day writing while listening to music. I also spent Monday planning my friend's birthday, which is actually next Monday. I went for a walk to let stress out. While I went walking I saw a cute little puppy. The puppy followed me home, and I fed it. But after a while it left.

Student Success Statement: Alan Paton

“ When a deep injury is done us, we never recover until we forgive.”- Alan Paton

The significance of the quote is pretty clear to me. Some may not understand it, but i do. It talks about forgiving someone for the mistakes they do. We all get hurt in some point of our lives, and I admit, it feels like if the pain will never go away. It feels like a hole in your chest, gnawing away at your soul. You break down, and its okay to break down. I've learned from experience that when you keep those emotions inside, the feelings combine and come out in a stronger effect. You feel trapped inside, you ask yourself why it happened to you. But like i said it passes, and we heal. We must learn to forgive, we can’t keep feeling anger and hate inside of us. Its unhealthy for us, and sometimes we think that we have a right to feel hate, but you don’t. Because one day you will be old and you have not forgiven, it will still be inside you, haunting you.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day

Memorial day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died protecting and serving in the country's armed forces. It is celebrated every year on the last Monday of May. Many people visit cemeteries and memorials, particularly to honor those who have died in military service. Many volunteers place an American flag in every grave in national cemeteries. On Memorial Day the United States flag is raised to the top of the staff and then lowered to the half-staff position, which remains until noon. It is then raised to full staff for the remainder of the day. Some things that I will do to respect this day is pray for those who are in grieving, give thanks to the people that have served our country.

I think memorial day is a very special day all across the world. It is the day that we give thanks to those who have served and provided for our country. We also thank and celebrate for the one’s that have made it back. We grieve the loss that others and ourselves are going through. Some people don’t know how to cope with this because it is hard to lose someone you love. I’m not saying that you will forget about them, but your heart will mend, and you will be fine soon. We need to move on because that is how life is. But that doesn’t mean we should ignore the people that have died for us. We should respect and honor the people that have done so much for us and the country.

Student Success Statement: Rex D. Pinegar

“ Dare to do right.”-Rex D. Pinegar

The significance of this quote is to do the right thing at all times. To do the right thing every second of every day. No matter how bad the situation is, you have to make the right choice. Not only for other people but for you as well. You want to be brave, and show kindness. There is never a need to be cruel or rude. Be the mature person and do what’s right. The only way to solve something is to make the right choice. Nothing good comes out of making the wrong choice. There are consequences that come with making the wrong choice, but there is never something good that you get out of it. When you make the right choice you feel good, but when you do bad you feel horrendous.

Video Reflection

Reflection on video

Brooke is 6 feet tall. She lives in mexico, and is learning spanish. She stands out because she is really tall. She talks about how she is different in many ways. She embraces her differences. Her friends talk about how she isn’t scared to stand out. Or do the things that no one else would do. She likes to do what she wants, not what everyone else is doing. She believes in herself and her friends. She likes to do what is right for her and everyone else.

Student Success Statement: Thomas S. Monson

“ Dare to stand alone.”-Thomas S. Monson

This quote from Thomas Monson has such great significance. It can have many meanings or things to relate to. But the one that stands out to me is to say what you think is right. And to stand up or believe in what you think is right. No matter what others think you do what you want. Even if no one agrees with you. Do what you think is good for you and other people. It doesn’t matter if you stand alone, if no one is on your side. I believe choices are meant to be taken seriously because they can affect your life as easily as it was to make the choice. We need to have courage and be brave. We also need to be kind, and think positive. Although at times it can get hard and frustrating, we just need to remember that it will pass. Try to think positive about the situation, and try to think it out before you act on impulse.

Any topic: Barnes and Noble

Barnes and Noble

My topic is a book store known as barnes and noble.

I chose this topic because I like reading and buying new books almost every week. Barnes and noble is a book store. This is a fortunate 500 company. It is the largest retail bookseller in the United States and a retailer of content. The company operates 638 retail stores in all 50 U.S. States. Barnes and noble originated in 1886 with a bookstore called Author Hinds and company. In 1894, Noble was named a partner, and the name was Hinds & Noble. Barnes and noble publishes some of the books it sells, reprinting non-copyrighted titles. The company has expanded its publishing operation. Barnes and noble hires community business development managers to engage in community outreach. The manager's responsibilities involve organizing in-store events, such as author appearances. I have actually been to meet Lily Collins at Barnes and Noble for her first book release. The manager also organizes children story times and book groups. Barnes and noble also host book fairs which raises funds for schools and libraries. Most stores sell books, magazines, newspaper, DVD’s, graphic novels, games, Nook e-readers and technology.

Student Success Statement: Dan Dierdorf

“ If I've got correct goals, and if I keep pursuing them the best way I know how, everything else falls into line. If I do the right thing right,, I’m going to succeed.” -Dan Dierdorf

I agree with Dan Dierdorf with this statement. Our goals are what we want to do and achieve in life. Our goals are meant to keep us doing right things all the time without hesitation. Our goals are meant to be good and pure instead of wrong one’s. We have to give in all of our best if we want to succeed in life. We have to give in all our best throughout the way. We have to try and not do it wrong the first time or we will have to do it again from the beginning. And there are consequences that come within doing things the wrong way. This quote states that if we do the right thing everything in your life will be good. But it also states that we have to give in our best in everything. And i believe this is true, we have to work hard to get or achieve something. All good things come to those who work hard.

  1. Work hard
  2. Follow your passions. Do things you are interested in doing
  3. Don’t chase after money
  4. Serve others. Do good things for others, and good things will come to you.
  • Phillip Rigg’s
I believe these four tips by Phillip Rigg’s are very helpful. These tips tell us to do what we love. Do what makes us happy and enjoy it. To not do it for anyone else, if you like to do something do it. We need to work hard to accomplish things in life, we won’t get anything unless we are willing to try. To be kind to others, to show compassion. Help others when they truly need it. These tips state that if you do good things to others, good things will come to you, and I believe this quote. It is only a matter of time when it will happen. But we need to be kind, compassionate, and caring. We must learn to forgive and move on, show we are kind and good things will happen to us. We just need to follow these tips and we will succeed in life.

Student Success Statement: Theodore Roosevelt

“ In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. “- Theodore Roosevelt

I agree with Theodore Roosevelt when he states this quote. This quote has a great significance, it has more meaning than is stated within the words. If you read it carefully you can clearly see that we have a choice. We have choices all the time, but we don’t have as much time as we’d like. So we have to choose wisely, we need to think it through. When it comes to that moment where you have to decide, we all think of the possibilities. But we don’t think about how others might feel, or about the consequences. We only think about ourselves. And that’s when we do the wrong thing, we only think about ourselves. We need to think about others, we need to do the right thing. Not only for ourselves, but for others as well. I want to make others feel happy bring the people happiness and see the world differently.

Student Success Statement: Wilford Woodruff

“ Nothing is ever gained in doing what’s wrong. “- Wilford Woodruff

I agree with Wilford when he states this quote. What is the point of doing bad choices when nothing good ever comes out of them. There is no point of cheating if you are not learning anything. You are just cheating your brain into thinking you did well but in reality you didn't understand at all. You don’t get anything in return if you do the wrong thing. We all have a choice to choose between the good and wrong. We also have the choice to follow the good or wrong. Our instinct is to do what’s wrong because someone may be watching or because we are lazy and not thinking. Some people never think about their actions, they just do them. You have to think about the consequences, you have to stand up for what is right. Never do the wrong thing because you want to impress someone. Do the right thing because you care about other people and yourself.

Student Success Statement: Pam Knox

“ It’s a great moment when someone has character to step up and do the right thing at the right time. “- Pam Knox

I agree with Pam when she states this quote. I believe standing up for what is right defines what type of person you are. It makes other people define who you are as a person. Having the motivation to do the right thing when nobody else thinks to do it, i think that is very brave. Even though nobody agrees with you do it to show them that they are wrong. There are things in life that are worth standing up for. Whether you're the only one who see’s it or not, you know it is wrong. Doing what is right has always and will always be the key to success in life.

Student Success Statement: Karl G. Maeser

“ I have been asked what I mean by ‘ word of honor ‘. I will tell you: Place me behind prison walls-walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground-there is a possibility that in some way or another I might be able to escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can i get out of that circle? No, never I’d die first.” - Karl G. Maeser

I agree with Karl Maeser when he states this quote. I believe that we all should be able to give our word and not be doubted. Although sometimes it's tempting to break it we have to do it. I think it's rather rude to promise a person something or give your word for it and nor follow through. Your word of honor is like a promise you do to yourself saying you will do the things you say. There is no point saying you will do something if you know that you will not commit to it. Some people might commit to something they are willing to do and everyone honors that, however when they don't accomplish their promise they start losing the honor and value of their words. I believe sometimes people do truly don't have control on the obstacles life brings within, but you can control on how you will fix it. If you really believe you should honor your words than use them in a good way, for good reasons.
