Student Success Statement: Karl G. Maeser

“ I have been asked what I mean by ‘ word of honor ‘. I will tell you: Place me behind prison walls-walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground-there is a possibility that in some way or another I might be able to escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can i get out of that circle? No, never I’d die first.” - Karl G. Maeser

I agree with Karl Maeser when he states this quote. I believe that we all should be able to give our word and not be doubted. Although sometimes it's tempting to break it we have to do it. I think it's rather rude to promise a person something or give your word for it and nor follow through. Your word of honor is like a promise you do to yourself saying you will do the things you say. There is no point saying you will do something if you know that you will not commit to it. Some people might commit to something they are willing to do and everyone honors that, however when they don't accomplish their promise they start losing the honor and value of their words. I believe sometimes people do truly don't have control on the obstacles life brings within, but you can control on how you will fix it. If you really believe you should honor your words than use them in a good way, for good reasons.
