Student Success Statement: Dr. Ben Carson

“ I hated poverty. Poverty is more of a choice than anything else, and i can change that ( poverty ). It depends on how hard I want to work, and I decided that I wanted to change it. “- Dr. Ben Carson

What this quotes significance is that we decide if we want to change our future. We all come from a family, we all know what it's like for us to want something but never get it. For some of us it is even more hard to support our family, we all have a path. We all have a path that leads us somewhere, but the thing is we never know when and where that path will lead us and end. We don’t know when it can end or where it leads. That is a mystery for us all, well for most of us anyways. But we all have one, the possibilities of where they might lead are endless. And that is a good thing, we don’t know our future. The best part in life is that you don’t take it somewhere unless you make the choice. Unless you say so it will keep leading to a path the is unknown. So unless you do something about it to change it, no one else will change it for you. You will have to take responsibility for your own future, it's not someone else's life, it's yours. You need to learn how to hold on to life when you're slipping, you take control. If you don’t you’ll fall and you will end up where you started. Work hard and it will pay off, do it for the people you care about and if not for them, then at least do it for yourselves.

Student Success Statement: Dean Smith

“ I wasn’t trying to leave a legacy. I was trying to do what was right. “- Dean Smith

I think Dean Smith was a good person. He was a person that did not think about himself first. He thought about how others might feel. He showed that he cares about other people and that he is an honest person. This quote shows us, the readers that he did what he thought was right. He didn’t do anything because of the fame or because he wanted to be known. He did it because he knows how it feels when you lose something. He clearly states that he wasn’t trying to do anything all he wanted to do was the right thing. I think he is a kind and thoughtful person. He kept an open mind for how others felt. He showed a lot of people and proved to them that he was unselfish and that he really cared about how others felt. He is a person that anyone would like to be or know personally. He is a huge role model for many people that want to be like him.

Student Success Statement: Martin Luther King Jr.

“ Intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character, that is the goal of true education.”- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The significance of this statement is to make people understand what you can achieve with intelligence and character. We can have a good character but what does that work for? Or you can be intelligent and not have good character. These things matter because we need to learn how to appreciate the things that are given to us. We need to learn that whatever is given to us is useful. There is always a way in life. You have to show good character and be smart. You have to show that not everything in life is as bad as people think. We need these things in our life. They make us improve and understand the world. It makes us understand why we are here. We need to understand that we can be intelligent and have a good character. We need these things in our life to make other people understand.

Thanksgiving week

Thanksgiving week

Thanksgiving week was very interesting. Every family had to bring some type of food or dessert. My family was required to make ham like every year. The reunion was held at one of my close aunt’s house, where all our family ate, talked, and enjoyed each other's company. But most of the times I stayed home with my two siblings. We usually just cleaned the house and then I would cook for all of us and just lay down and watch movies, mostly comedies. Or i would go sit by my reading window with a book in my hand or draw when I felt like I needed to get my stress out. I would also talk to my friends for a while and then go to bed and watch TV. I also ate a lot of food over this week, for Thanksgiving i ate pasta and potato salad. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday I went to the mall shopping. I went to one of my favorites stores Abercrombie and Fitch. I also went to Paris Baguette and bought macaroons of all types of colors and flavors.

Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated in Canada and The United States. It was originally celebrated to give thanks for all the blessings of the harvest and the preceding year. It is celebrated on the second Monday of Canada and the fourth Thursday in November in the United States.  Pilgrims and  puritans who began emigrating from England in the 1620s and 1630s carried the tradition of Days of Fasting and Days of Thanksgiving with them to New England. Prayers of thanks and special thanksgiving ceremonies are common among almost all religions after harvests and at other times. The Thanksgiving holiday's history in North America is rooted in English traditions dating from the Protestant Reformations.  In the English tradition, days of thanksgiving and special thanksgiving religious services became important during the English Reformation in the reign of Henry VIII and in reaction to the large number of religious holidays on the Catholic calendar. Before 1536 there were 95 Church holidays, plus 52 Sundays, when people were required to attend church and forego work and sometimes pay for expensive celebrations.
